Day 39 – A good book you’ve read lately

Mastering the American Accent with  4 Audio CDs
by: Lisa Mojsin M.A

I really love this book. It has lots of examples and details. It is really a helpful book for my accent. The book aims to teach the non-native speakers the correct American accent and pronunciation. The book demonstrates each pronunciation with practice words and sentences which are simple and straightforwardly understood. My God!  Those exercise words and sentences showed me that I have been pronouncing words incorrectly. It also teaches me the rules of which word and syllable need to be stressed and which are not. I feel that those rules have helped my intonation when I speak. This book is FANTASTIC and the price is REASONABLE.  You will benefit it tremendously by following the book’s instructions and applying to your daily life.

Random Thoughts!

“The voice you should believe in the most is the one inside of you. No one outside of you should ever be able to drown out the belief you feel inside. If you’ve locked into a solid conviction about your path, your goal, your view of the universe, then believe in it, and make your voice the loudest, inside of you.”

”I still hope for the best everyday. My heart will not give up on trusting and waiting. I know that the best is yet to come!”

”Whatever happens, enjoy life! Remove tears, give your smile , sometimes the most beautiful comes after a full tear injuries.”

“In the end, some of your greatest pains become your greatest strengths.”

“Because sometimes it takes the worst pain to bring about the best change.”

”Even if we do suffer a few knockdowns, we have to get up and continue to press on.”

”There are moments in our lives when we find ourselves at a crossroads. afraid and confused without a roadmap. The choices we make in those moments can define the rest of our days. Of course, when faced with the unknown, most of us prefer to turn around and go back. But once in a while people push on to something better. Something found just beyond the pain of going it alone. And just beyond the bravery and courage it takes to let someone in or to give someone a second chance. Something beyond the quiet persistence of a dream. Because it’s only when you’re tested, that you truly discover who you are. And it’s only when you’re tested, that you discover who you can be. The person you want to be does exist. Somewhere on the otherwise of hard work and faith and belief … and beyond the heartache and fear of what lies ahead.”

Day 38 – Your favorite vacation spot

Photo: Credit to the owner ”New Zealand”

I have not been fortunate to travel a lot of places yet, but it is close to my heart to know that it is a dream of mine to do just that. However, when I was younger I’m always dreaming of going to New Zealand aside from Israel. I think New Zealand has fabulous scenery, lots of wildlife, lots to do outdoors, it is green and lush and it’s a long way from anywhere else. Nonetheless, in this world there are many cool places to visit and I am sure you will have a great time no matter where you go as long as you make the most of it.

Day 37 – A picture of your favorite grocery store

Too many list but for the bulk of my shopping, Wal-Mart is one of my favorite because of their prices plus they have everything you want in one place.

But for fashion and cosmetics stuff,  I go to Target.

What about you? Where is your favorite place to shop either online or in-store and why?

Day 36 – A place where you spend a lot of time

4 Major places in the house where I spend a lot of time

Bedroom

I spend a  lot of time in my room alone praying, reading, writing or watching television. Spending time alone in my bedroom  gives me time to think. I like  to think about things that are going on in my life.

Couch

Couch! Yes, I fell in love with this couch. I spend a lot of time on this place too. I love poking  around on my computer here, reading books and watching television. I’m on it right now actually.

Kitchen

I love to cook and bake, so I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I like to try new recipes or making my own recipes so I almost always cook and bake from scratch. I don’t buy frozen meals or dinner kits because frozen meals  generally provide small quantities of vegetables and fruits. Some of which might not be whole foods. Many frozen meals may have added gluten, preservatives, flavorings or chemicals, so  I always use fresh vegetables for cooking. Fresh fruits and vegetables have a higher water content and therefore offer natural hydration that is important for cellular health.

Backyard

Backyard is also special to me because it is a place where I can have quiet time to myself and enjoy the beauty of nature. Although this backyard doesn’t have a tree house yet or anything fancy, it is still my favorite place. It is quiet and peaceful, has fresh air to admire and you can hear birds singing from afar. I really enjoy this place most of the time.

How about you? Where do you spend most of your time?

xoxo,

Quitters never win! (Pat’s prose challenge)

Quitters never win! When people say winners never quit, it really means not giving up on your ultimate goal, whether it is financial freedom, time freedom or anything you really want in life. If you fall down don’t quit! Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Don’t quit in hard times, get back up, dust yourself off, Just keep praying and going. Because the one who is within you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Urban

ur·ban /ˈərbən/

Adjective:

  • In, relating to, or characteristic of a city or town.
  • An urban area is characterized by higher population density and vast human features in comparison to areas surrounding it.

My entry for this week challenge is…

My hometown. The land of promise and the land of the brave. The City of Davao or in Filipino  ”Lungsod ng Dabaw”  is the most peaceful, safest and cleanest city in the Philippines. Davao is 3 times larger than Metro Manila and 7 times larger than Cebu. With over 240,000 hectares of land area, Davao City is the largest city in the Philippines in terms of acreage.

Davao City, Philippines

Davao City  is  known for a lot of things. It is the Orchid Capital of the Philippines, the Fruit Basket of the Philippines and the City in Bloom.  The Philippine Eagle also known as Monkey-Eating Eagle is  found in this city. Davao is the home of a lot of gardens, plantations and a wide variety of flowers. The most famous flower found in abundance in the city is Waling-waling or Vanda Sanderana, a type of orchid.

Davao City has plenty of amazing beaches and mountain resorts, and is close to diving spots and the highest peak in the Philippines, Mt. Apo. It was awarded by the Department of Tourism as the “Most Livable City” in the Philippines in 2008. This city is a typhoon free and is also known as a Durian City of the Philippines. If you missed my previous post about Durian fruit click  here.

The other reasons why people like to choose Davao as a good place to live or visit  is because of the quality of life that we have here. The city is extremely urbanized and yet satisfyingly simple in lifestyle, so it retains the best of both worlds. Davaoeño, a dialectal variant of Cebuano, is the major spoken language in the city, while the Tagalog itself comes a distant second. English is the medium of instruction in schools and is widely understood and spoken especially in the field of business and for all official documents. Bistaglish, an informal mixing of the above languages, is spoken as well. My hometown was, and remains a peaceful and beautiful town and I am proud to say ” Davaoeña ko bai.

Day 35 – Favorite movie that you own

“The Greatest Movie in History.”  I’ve watched this movie more than 5 or 8 times. Titanic is by far my favorite movie of all time.  I really love this movie because it proves to me one thing — that true love can last forever or in other words, true love conquers all. Everything about it is spectacular– especially the love story between Jack and Rose.  The acting performance of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet was incredibly fantastic, the love story was mesmerizing, and the music was like the icing on the cake. The history of the Titanic and all the survivors was interesting, sad, and thought-provoking. Many moments of this movie were heartbreaking. The characters were all unique in their specific roles and the emotional roller-coaster ride was one that I will never forget. AMAZING! is the best word  to describe this movie.

How about you, what is your favorite movie that you own?
