Taming the Tongue

James 3:1-12

1) Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.2) We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.3) When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
4) Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
5) Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
6) The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7) All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can
8) but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9) With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10) Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
11) Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring?
12) My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Moral of the story is to speak positively. Because positive words lifts & negative words pulls you down. Take a couple of seconds before saying something to other people. Taming the tongue by being more up-building in your comments to others is a sign of true love and maturity. When you speak to others in this way, you will find that more and more people enjoy being around you because you make them feel more positive after talking to you.

P.S: Our speech should be kind and gentle- 2 timothy 2:24-25

The LORD is my SHEPHERD!

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.” —Mary Engelbreit

Matthew 6:25-34 25

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

There is a time for everything!

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

I will FIGHT to follow YOU!

Psalm 3

Lord, how many are my foes!

How many rise up against me!

Many are saying of me,

God will not deliver him.”

But you, Lord, are a shield around me,

my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

I call out to the Lord,

and he answers me from his holy mountain.

I lie down and sleep;

I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.

I will not fear though tens of thousands

assail me on every side.

Arise, Lord!

Deliver me, my God!

Strike all my enemies on the jaw;

break the teeth of the wicked.

From the Lord comes deliverance.

I Will Rise!

Psalm 27

~*~

The Lord is my light and my salvation—

    whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—

    of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked advance against me

    to devour me,

it is my enemies and my foes

    who will stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me,

    my heart will not fear;

though war break out against me,

    even then I will be confident.

One thing I ask from the Lord,

    this only do I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

    all the days of my life,

to gaze on the beauty of the Lord

    and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble

    he will keep me safe in his dwelling;

he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent

    and set me high upon a rock.

Then my head will be exalted

    above the enemies who surround me;

at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;

    I will sing and make music to the Lord.

Hear my voice when I call, Lord;

    be merciful to me and answer me.

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”

    Your face, Lord, I will seek.

Do not hide your face from me,

    do not turn your servant away in anger;

    you have been my helper.

Do not reject me or forsake me,

    God my Savior.

Though my father and mother forsake me,

    the Lord will receive me.

Teach me your way, Lord;

    lead me in a straight path

    because of my oppressors.

Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,

    for false witnesses rise up against me,

    spouting malicious accusations.

I remain confident of this:

    I will see the goodness of the Lord

    in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord;

    be strong and take heart

    and wait for the Lord.

There is warmth in the Light of God

Psalm 86

Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord,
for I call to you all day long.
Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
for I put my trust in you.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry for mercy.
When I am in distress, I call to you,
because you answer me.

Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
will come and worship before you, Lord;
they will bring glory to your name.
For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.

Teach me your way, Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me from the depths,
from the realm of the dead.

Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God;
ruthless people are trying to kill me—
they have no regard for you.
But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Turn to me and have mercy on me;
show your strength in behalf of your servant;
save me, because I serve you
just as my mother did.
Give me a sign of your goodness,
that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

With Him all things are Possible!

I’ve been clawing my way through an extremely difficult transition period for several years now. Every identity I had either slipped away or was stripped away (horrific heart aches, mother died, my family’s never been intact, friends left, etc. etc.) All pretty normal ‘’stuff’’ but the cumulative effect left me quaking. I’d read a bunch of self-help books. Done journal and so on but there were just some very destructive patterns that I wasn’t able to unchain.

Then something shifted. I meditate morning and evening, getting to know God, read His Word. Ever since often a few more times during the day while I do my daily routine. His soft voice calms my mind while His Word calms my body. I am making quantum leaps forward in the dislodgement of my ‘’old pattern’’ thinking. Chaos precedes creation. I have transformed myself from a ‘’glass is half empty’’ person to a ‘’glass is half full’’ person. I’m sure that my future, even though hard times will still come about, will be bright and happy in ways I cannot imagine now!

God’s Timing is Perfect!

Sometimes it is easy to think that we can do all things in our own, then we stumble, get frustrated and we feel like life seems falling apart. We forget to pray! Pray about it! Often times, we’ve prayed, fasted, explored countless options and feel helpless because of “unanswered” prayers, well maybe we’re lacking of faith. FAITH and PRAYER must come together. Matthew 17:20 ‘’He replied, “Because you have so little faith.  I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Whenever I read this verse, it brings me peace while I wait! I know that sooner or later God will reveal His purpose in my life. Let’s pray and have faith while waiting, for God’s TIMING is PERFECT!

Patience is not just the ability to wait; it is the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. WAITING is part of life. Often times we do not wait well and yet, we just complain when all we need to do is pray, have faith and believe that God will work wondrous in our lives. Let’s be PRAYERFUL and seek to obey God. There is nothing God doesn’t already know. He knows our deepest desires, our joys, pain and hopes. And He wants us to share those with Him. Prayer is the ray that connects us with God.

Prayer for Strength

Psalm 112

Praise the Lord.

Blessed are those who fear the Lord,
who find great delight in his commands.

Their children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in their houses,
and their righteousness endures forever.
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.

Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
they will be remembered forever.
They will have no fear of bad news;
their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;
in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor,
their righteousness endures forever;
their horn will be lifted high in honor.

10 The wicked will see and be vexed,
they will gnash their teeth and waste away;
the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.
